The West Michigan Environmental Action Council recognized environmental justice advocate and sustainable business manager Alice Jasper for participating in a 10-day NOLS backpacking expedition designed for leaders of color in the outdoors. She’s attending this course, focused on decolonizing outdoor spaces, as part of her work with the WGVU Shaping Narratives program.

Honors Business Students Share Reflections on Wilderness Expedition

In January 2019, ten students enrolled in the University of Texas' Canfield Business Honors Program (BHP) participated in an eight-day backpacking expedition in Arizona’s Galiuro Mountains. Their top take-aways from this customized NOLS course ranged from building closer friendships with one other to the paradigm-shifting realization that “cold is a choice.”
